Martha Chaves

Martha Chaves is a very funny woman and not only because of her wacky accent. Her infectious, candid style, and her natural ability to relate to any audience, has made her a very popular headliner comedian at clubs, colleges, festivals, fundraisers, and corporate functions.

Martha is a veteran of a dozen Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. She has also performed at the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Edmonton Comedy Festival, The Toronto People’s Festival, and El Festival del Humor in Colombia, to mention a few. Her versatility has also granted her to perform all over the world and to entertain a wide range of audiences, including the UN Canadian Peace Keeping Troops in the Middle East, and a delegation of women, led by Nobel Peace Prize recipients in Mexico and Central America.

Her Stand-Up TV credits include her own two national comedy specials: COMICS! On the CBC, and There’s Something about Martha on CTV and The COMEDY NETWORK; plus her multiple TV appearances in Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival and many others. She’s often heard on Laugh Out Loud on CBC radio and on The Debaters, also on CBC radio.

Martha is a six-time nominee for a Canadian Comedy Award, in the category of Best Female Stand-up and she was the runner-up in The Great Canadian Laugh-off comedy competition, 2010.

Her two theatre pieces, Staying Alive and Fragile, were featured in The SOULO Festival of solo shows in Toronto (2012-2013). Staying Alive was read two consecutive years (2010- 2011) in the De Colores Festival of New Works, in Toronto as well.

Martha has also become in in demand as a keynote speaker. Her clients include The Brain Cancer Society of Canada; Autism Nova Scotia, and numerous Ontario high schools that invited her as a guest speaker in an anti-bullying campaign.
